Vinegar Hill Picture Works

Want to hear a fun interview with some new Christian filmmakers?  Then head over to "The Point," a sub-set of Breakpoint Prision Ministries has an interview with the two guys behind Vinegar Hill Picture Works.

Most of  their work so far has been promotional video work, but they mention a couple of feature and/or narrative projects, including a movie about sex trafficing, abortion and a vacuum cleaner salesman.  Hopefully they'll figure out a way to put all of those into the same movie!  That'd be a crazy story!

Speaking of their promo videos, their work is really quite good.  It has a great visual look, and the pieces generally have an interesting meditative tone.  Appropriate I suppose for pieces made for church promos, but they are nice to watch, even if you don't know exactly what they are meant to be promoting.  Their most recent is embeded at the bottom of this post.

They have some good comments in their interview, although I would say that using Uncle Tom's Cabin as an example of a story that addressed an issue by using a great story is a big mistake.  For all its signifigance, Uncle Tom's Cabin is not the kind of story that lasts and endures;  it is not a very good story.

Some admin notes!

There will be a new post up in an hour or two, once I get to a computer with sound so I can check out a video, but in the meantime, a couple of notes:

By popular demand I've added an email link to our site.  Email is great if you have a question or a tip or something that requires, or would be nice, to have some sort of response.

Leave a comment on the site to let others know your thoughts, start a discussion or just want to share a comment but don't need a response.

And, of course, iTunes reviews are the best way to review the show and help us get the word out!  The  best way, that is, besides just telling your friends yourself!

See you soon!

Episode Forty Five - Mysterious Ways

This week we complete our homeschooling 'Trilogy of Terror' with 'Mysterious Ways', another Manny Edwards film, this time about a Nurse Ratchet-ish public school board member trying to take down the homeschooling community, so the family jump ship and raise their children on a farm. Yup. We also make a retraction of our assumed knowledge of Texas property tax laws. Big ups to 'Yacht Rock', for being the best internetz show ever. Go. Watch. Now. Except for the Jethro Tull episode. Not feeling that one. And a screenshot from 'Noby Noby Boy' my PSN Golden Calf of the week. Direct Download to this episode! Right Here!

Oversold: Hosea in the modern world

Both Peter Chattaway(who writes for CT Movies) and The Bible Films blog are reporting on Oversold, a modern take on the book of Hosea. CT Movies has an interview with Crissy Morgan, internet-launched and now reformed porn star who stars in the film as an exotic dancer. This is the second re-telling of Hosea I've seen recently, the first being Redeeming Love, which some women at my church have been studying.

Oversold is a 30ish minute short film, which you can download directly from their site $5. The trailer looks decent, but it is hard for me to shake the feeling that the acting, as well as the sleezy goateed villain, is reminiscent of the type of "story" that is usually featured and often parodied in porn films. We've already got a couple of movies in our chute to review, but hopefully we'll get to this soon.

The plot summary on CT Movies does give me one bit of pause;  it describes Morgan's character on who "who yearns to break free from the sordid life that enslaves her."  My understanding of Hosea was that Gomer, Hosea's wife, had no desire to reform her ways.  It was Hosea's love for her despite her continual sin that was the picture of God's love for his people.  Changing that seems to change the nature of the story.

Heavenly High gets a second season

How could I not have heard about this before?  A Christian tv sitcom/drama about high school kids and their problems in this modern world, helped by a strange lady in a nurse uniform.

Heavenly High, which I probably haven't heard of because it only airs on some local TV stations(not local to me) and has a website that is, shall we say, less than functional.   I'm not kidding, that website is straight out of bad 1990s web design, mixed with a bit of 2006-era Myspace.  Dreamweaver anyone?

It was just picked up for a second season by Faith TV, which distributes the show for Christian satellite television.

You can watch episodes online at GodZoneTV.com, if you are very patient for the site to load.  I've been trying to watch one for the past few days, but I keep running out of time to finish it after it takes its sweet time to load.

Trailer for Heavenly High:
