A Life

A new Christian movie called A Life is coming soon on DVD.  

Don't know much about this movie besides the trailer, but it is coming on DVD December 8.  Based on the trailer, it is hard to make a good guess on what the movie is like.  Defiantly a tear jerker, but the trailer has very little actual footage, with a lot of text cards and Bible verses instead of scenes from the film.  We'll see I'm sure.

The Bible: Illuminated now in English

The Bible Illumianted The Book: New Testament is now available in English.  We spoke about this a long time ago , when it was only available in Swedish, but you can go ahead pre-order the English version from Amazon now.  

Between this and St. John's Bible , you can have two very different but both very modern version of the Bible that are as beautiful to look at as they are to read.  

Christmas is right around the corner, and this would be a great gift for any art fans on your list.

Wesley delayed until 2009

The movie Wesley , based on the life of John Wesley, has been pushed back to 2009.

Previously this film was scheduled to be released on Nov. 15, 2008.

No word on the specifics of why this was delayed, but speculation on The Christian Post links it to a crowded Christian movie market (Fireproof , Billy: The Early Years and House  are all out or will be out in the near future).  I'd like to see a bit more marketing from the producers, as this is one of the more obscure Christian movies in the pipeline right now.

Fireproof drops from #8 to #10

Fireproof dropped from #8 last weekend to #11 this weekend, dropping from $4,680 per theater to $3,640 per theater.   Fireproof is still successful, making $3.1 million this past weekend, taking it to a total gross of $16.9 million so far.  Still quite good for a $500,000 budgeted film. Interestingly, Fireproof still beat Religulous, the Bill Maher anti-religion screed, but Religulous took in more money per theater for the second week in a row. It remains to be seen if Fireproof has the long lasting success of Facing the Giants, or if it made most of its money in the opening weeks. Edit: in the time between I wrote this and published it, boxofficemojo updated their figures to put fireproof back in the top 10 at #10. Save Me Used to be Funny

Save Me , starring End of The Spear 's Chad Allen, has been recieving positive write-ups in many Christian publications.  It won't be out on DVD until January 20, 2009, but it has been getting interesting articles, like this one in the San Francisco Bay Times.  This particular article touches on how the film's story changed from a comedy to a drama over the course of the long road from script to screen.   It is interesting stuff, particularly for the note on the explicit sex scene that may turn off some Christian viewers.

Personally, I thought Allen was excellent in End of the Spear , and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with this role.

House has a trailer!

There is finally a trailer out for House, the Frank Peretti/Ted Dekkar movie that has been delayed for over a year.  Apparently the filmmakers aren't happy with their R-rating , which means that a lot of youth groups and Christian Colleges not only won't see the movie, they'll condemn it was Satanic.  

Just kidding.

Not really.   I used to go to one of those youth groups.  But, I would guess that they will make an exception for this, just as everyone did for The Passion.  

As far as the trailer goes, I think it looks pretty good.  It defiantly has that Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe, with a bit of the "I'll force you to kill strangers" thing that has made Saw so popular.  It does seem to have some big effects moments, so we'll see if that was the reason for the delay.

The Imposter to premiere in October

The Imposter, the film starring Kevin Max of dc Talk, will premiere in Texas this month!  No word on the eventual DVD release where most of us will see it, but if you live near a Studio Movie Grill  location, you can see it starting this weekend.   This film looks interesting, and I'll keep you posted on its availability.  Keep an eye on the official site  for more. The Love Dare selling big

The Love Dare , a real-life version of the once-fictional book that is at the heart of Fireproof , is selling like hotcakes.  The Love Dare has already sold over 300,000 copies, and is entering its 3rd printing.  

Funnily enough, this book wasn't even meant to be.  The Kendrick brothers didn't sit down and write it after they started screening the movie.  They did so in response to the high demand from people who attended early test screenings.  

I'm glad the book is doing well, as is the movie, but there is a nagging voice in my head that says that this is just another example of people turning to a book to help their lives or marriage instead of actually doing real counseling or discussion.  If this helps people, that is great.  But I think that people rely upon such books all too much for easy solutions to difficult problems.  "Just follow these 40 steps and everything will be ok."

Not true.
