SuperCandid Contest: Tells us what movie we treated unfairly

For our 50th episode we are revisiting our review to Facing the Giants, the first film we ever reviewed and one that, in hindsight, seems much better than we gave it credit for at the time.  Our 52nd Episode will be another re-visiting another movie.  Which other movie is for you to decide, and you could win a copy of Facing the Giants on DVD!

The contest is simple.  Email us at supercandid at gmail dot com, or click the email link below, and let us know what movie you think we should look at again.  Maybe you thought we were too hard on Hangman's Curse.  Or gave The Nativity Story a bad rap.  Perhaps you really like The List.  This is your chance to tell us.  We'll re-review the movie that gets the most votes, and on Episode 52 we'll draw a winner from among all suggestions!  This is your chance to win!

Spirit West Coast Video Contest

I don't know anything about Spirit West Coast.  Nothing.  

Apparently it is some sort of Christian music festival.  I recognized a band called Skillet.  

But, I'm interested because they are having a amateur video contest for videos to be played on their JumboTron during the festival.  Sounds like a fun opportunity to get some home-made short films seen.  I'd recommend films that don't rely upon sound to get their point across, since no one can ever understand anything broadcast over a PA system.

Reel Dreams Film Competition

Go over to GodTube(ugh, I know, but its only there so what can you do?) and check out out Regent University's Reel Dreams film contest.

This film features entries of 3-5 minute films about a person who faces a moral dilemma and then experiences the consequences of that dilemma.  

I haven't watched any of these yet(no time; work/school are killing me right now), but I noticed at least one clay animation short.  Vote for that just to give clay animation its just due!  Save This Page

24 Hour Christian Filmmakers Contest

I guess I missed this last week, but I was busy and don't get paid for this, so give a guy a little slack.  Anyway, the ChristianFilmmakers.org wrapped up their 24 Hour Film contest.  And the winner is someone who's work will be familiar to readers and listeners of this blog/podcast.  

Nathan Webster, producer of The Heartwood Dagger, won for his short film The Lost Sock.  It's very well filmed, although I felt that it kind of dragged, even for a 3 minute film.  The concept is sound, and the little kid is quite good.  I was a bit confused with the payoff, as it wasn't made clear who the last character revealed is, but I'll leave that to you, dear reader.

My own entry, Solomon, was a super-quickie, recorded and edited in about 2 hours.  I kept having problems with the sound so it sounds like crap, and the Youtube encoding didn't work out that great so you'll see some artifacting at the beginning.  It came in the mid-40s or something, out of 70 odd entries, so not bad I guess.  I would have liked to have done more but that was a crazy day anyway.  One of the judges posted some very good criticism on the Youtube comments, so I'm grateful for that.  I might even revisit the idea someday, perhaps over the summer.

24 Hour Film Contest for Christian Filmmakers

Hey there kids! Do you think you could make a better Christian movie than some of the ones we've reviewed on the site? Here's your chance! Christian Filmmakers.Org is holding a 24 Hour film contest on March 1. That's right, 24 hours to write, shoot, edit and submit the film. And believe me, if you have to put something on youtube it can sometimes take 24 hours to get it done right. Anyway, there's a $500 prize for the winner! You'rs truly just might enter, as I have another film contest that I'm going to enter on March 9 and I hope to have some actors gathered together for that one, so why not shoot 2 films for the price of one.
