Oversold: Hosea in the modern world

Both Peter Chattaway(who writes for CT Movies) and The Bible Films blog are reporting on Oversold, a modern take on the book of Hosea. CT Movies has an interview with Crissy Morgan, internet-launched and now reformed porn star who stars in the film as an exotic dancer. This is the second re-telling of Hosea I've seen recently, the first being Redeeming Love, which some women at my church have been studying.

Oversold is a 30ish minute short film, which you can download directly from their site $5. The trailer looks decent, but it is hard for me to shake the feeling that the acting, as well as the sleezy goateed villain, is reminiscent of the type of "story" that is usually featured and often parodied in porn films. We've already got a couple of movies in our chute to review, but hopefully we'll get to this soon.

The plot summary on CT Movies does give me one bit of pause;  it describes Morgan's character on who "who yearns to break free from the sordid life that enslaves her."  My understanding of Hosea was that Gomer, Hosea's wife, had no desire to reform her ways.  It was Hosea's love for her despite her continual sin that was the picture of God's love for his people.  Changing that seems to change the nature of the story.

Horror from Real Life made into Short Film 22 Weeks

A true-life Christian horror movie about abortion. 


You'll pardon me if I check my usual humor on this one. 


22 Weeks is a 25 minute short film that tells the true story of a woman who went in for an abortion and ended up holding her living baby in her arms as it died.


The movie is available now on DVD, for the price of $10 + shipping.  The trailer looks pretty creepy, but I think that this film will fall more into the heartbreaking and disturbing than truly scary.  If it sticks to the facts and avoids becoming too politically preachy, it should be a powerful testamony that no matter what you think about abortion, the current environment in the United States must not be allowed to continue.

I also tracked down the World Net Daily article from April 2005 that the movie is based upon.  It contains what I suppose you could call spoilers, as well as some disturbing imagery of the real baby.

Rosie's Miracle

The Winchester Star has a short article on a short film, Rosie's Miracle.  The film, directed and financed by Connie Lamothe, is about a 7-year-old's quest to cure her dying brother.  Lamothe describes the film as being about a typical blue-collar family, but with a Christian message.  No idea if we'll ever hear more about this, but I'm always a fan of short films, even though they are nearly impossible to see outside festivals.  Good luck to the producers and cast! SuperCandid Shorts: Battlefield Part 1

Slow week in Christian movie news, so I'm only posting stuff every other day.  Its either that, or you'd be getting me ranting about people in the Arts and Faith forums posting ridiculous rumors and arguing over the validity of fake movie news.

But today, I do have a bit of good news:  an honest to goodness review!  I'm reviewing a short film called "Battlefield Part 1."  I found this through a post on Yahoo's Christian Filmmaker Forum, and it is quite good.  I like the effects, the acting is better than acceptable, and the concept is engaging.  Most of all, this is a brief idea, done well and not overly drawn out.  Bravo!  Watch it below, or go to the official site to download it in High Def.  The only negative I have, and it's not really a negative, is that it is highly reminiscent of the famous Halo 3 ads, which I've put underneath it.  They both use the same Chopin music, but the similarities go beyond that.  Judge for yourself.

Oh, one last thing.  I'm all for good firearm safety, but for a war movie you really shouldn't have a close-up that show the bolt of a rifle locked to the rear.  But enough nit picking!  I like it, I'd like to see more, and I'm looking forward to more from this filmmaker.  I'd love to see Battlefield Part 2.

Reel Dreams Film Competition

Go over to GodTube(ugh, I know, but its only there so what can you do?) and check out out Regent University's Reel Dreams film contest.

This film features entries of 3-5 minute films about a person who faces a moral dilemma and then experiences the consequences of that dilemma.  

I haven't watched any of these yet(no time; work/school are killing me right now), but I noticed at least one clay animation short.  Vote for that just to give clay animation its just due!  Save This Page
