241

It's a big day for Christian DVD releases as TWO high profile films drop today.

Amazing Grace - The box office 'smash' from last winter, a story of abolition in the UK, FINALLY comes to DVD. It kept doing too well in theaters, so the DVD release kept getting pushed back. No complaints. It's sitting at 71% on Rottentomatoes.com, which is like 'Citizen Kane' as far as Christian films go.

Flywheel - A reissue of the first film from the team behind 'Facing the Giants'. It's about some guy who has a bad marriage and sells cars or something. Honestly, I've been trying to stay in the dark about this one until I actually watch it, because that's how I dig on my film going experience. Odds are, if you dug 'Facing the Giants', you'll like this one as well. I've heard that the story is pretty song, but the film quality is subpar.

Expect reviews of both DVDs soon... The SC camp is a mess right now!

Cavalcade of Entertainment

We've got a TON of films coming up for review on the podcast soon... So many, I just don't know where to start! At the same time, there is a serious shortage of co-hosts to review said films...

- Midnight Clear - Starring Stephen Baldwin
- Flywheel - The first release of the Kendrick brothers (Facing the Giants)
- Amazing Grace - Box office hit starring Mr. Fantastic
- The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey - Starring Tom Berenger!
- The Christmas Card - The one with the free card for a soldier.
- The Christmas Shoes - Starring Rob Lowe, based on the most depressing song ever.
- The Christmas Blessing - the sequel to 'shoes'. - With Neil Patrick Harris and Rebecca Gayheart (with cameo by Rob Lowe!)

That's seven shows... Six of which I would like to cover this year... of which there are only like seven weeks left in the first place. Any advice? Movies you're DYING to hear our opinion of (because, you know, our opinion is gospel and all... right.)?

Psalms 151

I caught a blurb on ChristianRetailer.com stating that Thomas Nelson Publishers was to release the new book Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World written by Lynne Spears, Britney Spears mother. The book should hit shelves in May 2008, just in time for Mothers Day (because, you know, all of our mothers are dying to know what Britney Spears' mom has to say about raising children.)

There are many reports about the book not being a trashy 'tell-all' and this and that, I even saw that on the cover of some tabloid near the registers at Target the other day, but Nelson confirms that it's all speculation as the transcript has not been written yet.

Why is this being released through a Christian publisher? Were they scrambling for some cash or something and decided to bank on Britney Spears' MOM? Is anyone interested in reading this for it's spiritual content? Is anyone interested in reading this PERIOD? I guess Tyndale got their bestseller with the new book by Tony Dungy (Coach of the Colts), Zondervan has their 'Bible Experience' that Jon is always talking about, starring every black actor you ever heard of, and Nelson just had a big hit with 'It's All About Him' by Alan Jackson's wife Denise (all about who? God? Alan Jackson?) so they're looking to strike more celebrity gold.

Anyway, something to look forward to for springtime if you're interested.

It's still been a slow news week month.
