The Bible is the new Comic Book

i09 has a story about The Bible being the new hot property to adapt, what with Kings and all the heavy religion on Battlestar Galactica .  They mention that comic book writer Mark Millar is working on making his 2005 comic Chosen  into what he calls his "American Jesus" trilogy.  As one of the (apparently) few people who actually read Chosen , I'm baffled at how it will be a trilogy of anything, since the final page is, quite literally, the end of the world.  We'll see.    Sony Pictures, the distributors behind Facing the Giants , Fireproof , Come What May , and Second Chance  optioned Chosen for a movie ages ago, probably before they figured out that it wasn't really about Jesus and it would probably inspire more protests than The Last Temptation of Christ.

I'm not posting the most famous image from Chosen, because everybody does that.  But I will post a video that utilizes the same pop culture reference.  You know, for kids.

Blue Like Jazz back on track!

HUGE NEWS!  The movie version of Blue Like Jazz,  which was put on hold indefinitely a while back, is back on in a big way.  Miller reports on his blog that Steve Taylor will start filming in may, and that tentative casting has begun .  Apparently Miller has been in touch with an actor who is playing "Don" in the movie, which, essentially, is someone playing Don Miller .  Take a look at that mug and let us know which actor you'd like to see in the role.  Me?  Seth Rogen, but that'll never happen.  Comment or email us your picks!

Miller also posted a "review" of the script on his blog, which, unfortunately, has nothing at all about the script and could be just an overview of the book.  Hopefully we'll hear more soon.

Amazon.com's big "Spiritual" DVD sale

Your friend and mine, Don, wanted me to let you know about a "Spiritual" DVD sale that is going on, RIGHT NOW, at Amazon. This sale features many film's we've reviewed on the podcast, including The Ultimate Gift, One Night With the King, Saving Sarah Cain, The Last Sin Eater, The Passion, The Visitation, The Gospel Road, and Thr3e.

Most of these are in the $8 range, although some like The Passion are up to $15(for the special edition).  I should mention that many of the DVDs on this page are not Christian, and some are downright anti-Christian & anti-intelligence (ie. What the Bleep do we Know?), so don't take this as a blanket recommendation.  However, I can highly recommend The Agony and the Ecstasy the fantastic film about Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling.  It stars Charlton Heston as Michaelangelo and Rex Harrison as Pope Julius II.  Heston is awesomely crazy, and Harrison is exasperated by mad painter who, if Harrison can force him to actually work, will paint the greatest painting of all history.

The Oath of the Desormeau for free this weekend!

Richard Ramsey dropped me a line to let everyone know that The Oath of the Desormeau  is available to watch for free this weekend as a promotional stunt! You might remember that we reviewed this a while back , and now you can check it out yourself for free. If you miss this weekends window, or you want to watch it at your own convenience, then you can buy it on DVD or download it from Behemoth .

On a side note, I'm looking forward to seeing more about Ramsey's "Wurmbrand" project .  I've been avoiding posting about it because he's been coy with the details, but I gather it is a dramatized version of the life of Richard Wurmbrand , founder of Voice of the Martyrs  .

Apparently I'm not the first person to notice that if you replace the "u" with a "y" you get an awesome dragon name:  Wyrmbrand .

Christian Film Trailers and Possible Theatrical release of The Widow's Might

Awaken Pictures reminds us that we haven't linked to Christian Film Trailers yet.  Which is true.  The site has a lot of potential, but I wish him(sometime commentator Kyle Prohaska) luck finding new trailers on a regular basis.  As booming as the Christian film market is, I can tell you finding news is not always easy.  It is a great compendium though, and hopefully it will keep growing.

I also wanted to pass along a tip from Awaken Pictures that The Widow's Might will be having a limited theatrical release.   According to this forum thread (I know, that sounds really reliable, but nevertheless...), it will be released for one week in 90 Carmike Cinemas.  Too bad there are none nearby, or I could encourage people to see this excellent movie.  Speaking of which, Christian Film Trailers has a link to the new trailer for The Widow's Might.  It doesn't give you quite as good a feeling of the film as the opening minutes do, but it's ok for a trailer.  I would have included some singing fellas, and one of the big jokes in the film is spoiled in the trailer.
